5 days of intensive work, 43 participants, 7 creative projects – these are the effects of our last week’s activities.

Service Design Winter School 2021.

Service Design Winter School is a type of design sprint. This event takes place every year in the third week of November in one of the European cities. This year, the 5th edition took place in Poznań, at Collegium da Vinci! We were visited by guests from, among others, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ukraine. All participants on the first day had the opportunity to see and get to know the Enigma Cipher Center. They learned about their history and the values that are important to them. They also had the opportunity to visit the center to better visualize all the previously collected information. The challenge posed by the Enigma Cipher Center was to encourage visitors to return to the museum more often.
The participants’ task for the next 3 days was to work on their projects so that on Friday they could present the solution to the problem that they had developed together.
On the second day, the participants focused on the initial stage of designing services – they started by doing appropriate research, defined personas and conducted benchmarking.
The workshop part ended a little earlier so that visitors could visit Poznań during the day.
On the next day, participants had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Łukasz Szałankiewicz on building emotions through music. In their projects, they went to the problem stage, and then selected the best solution. They spent the fourth day prototyping and preparing presentations for their Friday speech.
The participants were assessed by a group of experts from partner universities as well as the management of the Enigma Cipher Center.
As organizers, we had the opportunity to talk to the lecturers, we conducted short interviews to find out what their view of the whole event is.

A large dose of knowledge and a pinch of entertainment.
During the lectures at the university, we stimulated the creativity of the participants with icebreakers, which both refreshed the mind and integrated participants who worked in mixed groups. After the classes during an intense week, there was no shortage of time to see the phenomenal Poznań Gate, or to relax at the Maltese Baths the next day. We wouldn’t be ourselves if we didn’t take advantage of quite controversial entertainment like throwing axes and shurikens. We spent our last evening on refining the projects in one of Poznań’s coworking spaces, the final change of the environment had a very positive effect on the progress of the projects.

Many emotions and a lot of hard work accompanied us during an amazing week at Collegium da Vinci. We have gained a lot of experience and new friends. We would like to repeat this adventure with a strong overtone and we hope to see you next year!
